This year we will: Focus on four critical areas...
Developing understanding of multiplication and division and strategies for multiplication and division within 100
Developing understanding of fractions
Developing understanding of the structure of rectangular arrays and of area
Describing and analyzing two-dimensional shapes
We will strengthen our operations and algebraic thinking by...
Representing and solving multiplication and division problems
Understanding properties of multiplication and relating multiplication to division
Multiplying and dividing within 100
Solving addition, subtraction, multiplication and division problems and identifying and explaining patterns in arithmetic
We will practice number and operation in both base ten and fractions
Use place value understanding and properties of operations to perform multi-digit arithmetic
Develop an understanding of fractions as numbers
Measurement and Data
We will solve problems involving measurement and estimation of intervals of time, liquid volumes, and masses of objects. They review measurements of length and perimeter.
Represent and interpret data through graphing
Geometric measurement: understand concepts of area and relate area to multiplication and addition
Geometric measurement: recognize perimeter as an attribute of plane figures and distinguish between linear and area measures.
We will also learn about geometry by reasoning with shapes and their attributes.
